Traditionally Hydronic Heating costs between 2 – 3 times that of ducted to install. This cost can be quickly recovered over time by using the system efficiently. Average of 2/3rds running cost compared to Ducted. The luxury of Hydronic heating must be experienced to feel the difference – no forced air means no dust mites and no asthma for your children.
How does GreenHeat compare to standard hydronic heating?

*based on a 25sq home, 4 person family, heating for 8 hours per day, on mains gas.
What are the warranties on the GreenHeat System?
Hydrotherm offer a full 5-year manufactures warranty on all radiator panels, towel rails and valves. The Rinnai Hot water Unit and GreenHeat pump kit have a 12 month warranty from date of installation.
Can I run GreenHeat off Solar hot water or my electric hot water boiler?
Hydronic Heating requires constant reheating of water, as the heat is drawn from the water into each room. No Electric or Solar system can keep up with the demand required for reheating, and therefore it is essential to have the system run off a gas boiler. Solar storage units can be connected to the system to provide you with savings on your domestic hot water needs. Hydrotherm can help connect a solar unit to act as a pre-heater.
Is there a health risk by combining domestic water with hydronics?
No, the Plumbing commission of Victoria have undertaking several studies of combined hydronic and domestic water systems. As long as the domestic water is reheated above 60 degrees it is totally safe to use. Currently GreenHeat runs at 65 degrees Celsius, the perfect temperature to run Hydronic Heating and your domestic hot water. Tempering valves can be installed in bathrooms to temper water down to a desired temperature.
Where can I purchase GreenHeat Products?
GreenHeat system is available through our showroom and warehouse at 96 Commercial Drive, Thomastown Victoria. Please see contact us page for a map and directions.
What are the Radiators made from?
All GreenHeat radiator panels are made from Copper Tube to AS1572 and are safe to use in potable water systems. Traditional style panels are made from Steel and cannot be used with domestic hot water.
Can I use Greenheat with Underfloor or In-Slab heating.
Hydronic in-slab heating must be run at temperatures under 50 degrees Celsius. Domestic hot water in combination with Hydronic heating must be run at a minimum of 60 degrees ruling out in-slab as a possibility on a combined system. In-Slab hydronic heating is difficult to control and has very slow responsiveness. It can take several hours for the slab to heat up and cool down and it is very difficult to zone off rooms to required temperatures.
Can I place the radiators under windows?
Yes, Hydronic Radiators are traditionally placed under windows to counteract heat loss and minimise wall space. GreenHeat’s custom sizes alleviate space restrictions giving you a wide scope on panel sizing meaning you have full choice on where to position panels. Even distribution of radiators throughout larger rooms is essential in radiating the heat evenly.
Can I place the radiators behind furniture?
Yes, however it will restrict the radiant warmth and will not be as effective around the room. Furniture placed directly in front of radiator panels will restrict circulation and affect the room heating.
Can I use GreenHeat with other Radiator Panels?
Unfortunately not, if you’re running the system off your domestic hot water line. Copper panels must be utilised.
Can I make the radiators wall hung?
Towel Rail panels for your bathroom, laundry, ensuite and powder room can be wall hung. These panels weigh a lot less and have less than half the output of a normal Greenheat Radiator.
Where are the radiators made?
All GreenHeat panels are made by Hydrotherm Australia in Melbourne. We use only the finest quality materials and copper from Australian mines.
Can Hydrotherm install the GreenHeat System?
Yes, Hydrotherm supply and install the GreenHeat system throughout Victoria.
Can my plumber install the GreenHeat System?
Yes, any experienced plumber who has knowledge of Hydronics can install the Greenheat System. It is essential to contact Hydrotherm for basic training and installation requirements.
Does Hydrotherm deliver?
All supply equipment is ex-works from our factory in Thomastown. As the radiator panels are very heavy and easily damaged in Transit we do not recommend transporting the goods via standard couriers. A furniture transport company is recommended or direct pick up.
Is the Rinnai Hot Water Boiler capable of heating hot water for my domestic use and for the central home heating?
The Rinnai Infinity Range is an instantaneous unit meaning it heats on demand – a single Rinnai can supply the majority of homes with the capacity to deliver hot water and heating year round. Standard homes with under 3 bathrooms can run from a HD 200 unit whilst larger will require a HD 250. Please consult Hydrotherm for the best option to suit your home.
Can my existing hot water unit be use to run GreenHeat?
An existing storage unit can be converted by adding a Greenheat Circulating pump to supply heat to approx 3 radiator panels. This option is extremely useful if you want to have the benefits of circulated hot water and want to heat 1 or 2 rooms. Especially useful for hydronic heated towel rails see towel rails page. However it will not be adequate to provide hydronic heating to the entire house.
Can I combine my wood furnace/stove to the GreenHeat System?
Wood fired ovens can be incorporated into the GreenHeat system to provide extra environmentally friendly heat. Heating for an entire house will usually require a gas unit also as the wood heaters require a large amount of fuel to give out enough heat capacity to maintain an entire system.
Can you custom make the radiator sizes?
Hydrotherm custom make a huge variety of panel sizes to suit your individually application. Please see our radiators page for further information.
We are always happy to design and manufacture different sizes where the application is called for, simply provide us with a simple diagram.
